Weltman Announces Leadership Change In Consumer Collections

Alan Weinberg, Managing Partner of Weltman, Weinberg & Reis Co., LPA (Weltman) recently announced the retirement of fellow partner Terrence R. Heffernan, following a career that has spanned more than two decades at the firm. Weltman associate Douglas M. Dahmer was appointed to Manager of the Weltman Columbus Collateral Recovery/Replevin Group, which handles out-of-state collateral recovery claims across the U.S.

Terry Heffernan retired on July 16, 2010. During his many years of service, Terry was enthusiastically involved in managing the Firm’s national collateral recovery efforts. An active member of the creditors’ rights and legal communities, Terry was a member of the Community Bankers Association of Ohio, Creditors International and the Ohio State Bar Association. His community involvement impressively spanned across the American Legion, Boys Town, Columbus Shamrock Club, Northwest Columbus Civic Association, the YWCA Family Center and The Ohio State University Alumni Association.

“During his time with Weltman, Terry was instrumental in helping to develop many of our practice areas,” stated Mr. Weinberg. “His most recent undertaking was the management of the Firm’s Collateral Recovery/Replevin Group. He very effectively managed the unit while servicing a multitude of clients. We are sincerely appreciative of Terry’s professionalism, dedication to clients and friendship. This new life of leisure is certain to be a boost to his golf game!” Weltman wishes only the best to Terry and his wife, Lois, as he embarks upon a new chapter in his life.

In his new role, Mr. Dahmer will manage the Weltman Columbus National Collateral Recovery/Replevin Group. Having worked within this area for nearly 10 years, he has developed a thorough understanding of the replevin program and displayed a loyal dedication to clients.

“Doug has been a key member of our team for many years,” said Mr. Pona, Managing Partner of Consumer Collections at Weltman. “It is with great pleasure that we announce Doug’s new position, as he is a very capable and talented attorney. Even though he has big shoes to fill, I am confident that his extensive knowledge and capabilities will help us further strengthen the Collateral Recovery/Replevin Group."

Doug earned his J.D. from the IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law (1986) and his B.A. from Northern Illinois University (1974). In addition, he earned an M.A. from Northern Illinois University (1975) and M.P.A. from Roosevelt University (1980). A member of the Ohio State and Columbus Bar Associations, Doug is licensed in the state courts of Illinois, New Jersey and Ohio. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court (Northern District of Illinois and Southern District of Ohio) and the New Jersey District Court. Doug is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association (banking, commercial and bankruptcy law committees).
