Kentucky Recording Costs Increase Across the Commonwealth

Recording Costs Increase Across the Commonwealth

As of January 1, 2020, the costs for recording certain documents with county clerks across Kentucky have increased.   Most notably, the cost to record a judgment lien or a release of a judgment lien has increased from $13 to $46.  A complete list of all new recording fees in Kentucky can be found here.

While this increase is significant, creditors should not be deterred from filing judgment liens.  Judgment liens remain an effective tool for creditors to secure payment on a judgment and apply not only to property owned by the debtor at the time of recording, but also to after-acquired property.
