Weltman Elects New Partner

Weltman, Weinberg & Reis Co., L.P.A. is pleased to announce the election of a new partner- Mr. Michael J. Dougherty. Mr. Dougherty is the Managing Partner of the Philadelphia office of Weltman and focuses his practice on the areas of collections, subrogation, replevin and bankruptcy.

Mr. Dougherty’s election brings the total number of Weltman partners up to 24, three of which are certified as Creditors’ Rights Specialists by the American Board of Certification.

Mr. Dougherty received a B.S. cum laude in Political Science and History from Blackburn College in 1990 and a J.D. from the Widener University School of Law in 1995.  A member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, Mr. Dougherty is licensed in Pennsylvania, and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court (Eastern District of PA) and the Third Circuit Court of Appeals.  Mr. Dougherty is currently a member of the National Association of Subrogation Professionals (NASP) and the Delaware County Chamber of Commerce.  He has served as a guest speaker at Hahnemann University and has been published in NASP Subrogator.  Before working for Weltman, Mr. Dougherty was an attorney in charge of the litigation department for a small Philadelphia law firm for approximately two years.  Mr. Dougherty’s community involvement includes serving as a volunteer for the Red Cross and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Philadelphia.

Alan Weinberg, Managing Partner of the firm states, "I'm very pleased Mike is joining the other partners here at Weltman.  He has proven himself to be a great asset to the firm and our clients, and adds yet another great level of leadership to the firm.”

Jim Valecko, Managing Partner of Weltman’s Pittsburgh and Chicago Offices, said, “Mike Dougherty took over the management of our Philadelphia office shortly after joining our firm back in 2004.  Mike is a talented litigator who we discovered is also a tenacious debt collector.  He has an extraordinary work ethic and rapport with his staff which has helped him to grow the office from four people in 2004 to over 30 today, covering both Eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey.  Mike has been a tremendous asset to our firm and has helped us to solidify our presence on the East coast.  It has been my pleasure to work with him over the last six years and to sponsor him for partnership.”
