Weltman Attorney Appointed to Cleveland Heights Board of Zoning Appeals

Weltman, Weinberg & Reis Co., LPA (Weltman) attorney Benjamin Hoen has been appointed to serve a four year term on the Cleveland Heights Board of Zoning Appeals by the Cleveland Heights City Council. The Board of Zoning Appeals handles requests for variances and hears appeals of decisions made by certain city officials.

Ben explains, “I look forward to the challenges that this position will present and am honored by the Cleveland Heights City Council’s invitation.”

Benjamin Hoen practices in Real Estate Default, focusing on the Foreclosure & Eviction Group. He is based in the Cleveland office. Benjamin earned his First Rabbinical Degree from Central Yeshiva, Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitz in 1998 and his J.D. cum laude from Cleveland State University, Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 2004. A member of the Ohio State and Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Associations, Benjamin is licensed in Ohio and Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law Alumni Association (Moot Court Board of Governors) and was selected for inclusion in the 2011-2014 Ohio Rising Stars list. Benjamin's community involvement includes formerly serving on the Cleveland Heights City Council Citizens Advisory Committee (2011-2014), assisting with and monitoring the city's Community Development Block Grant Program, serving on the Board of Trustees of Congregation Zemach Zedek of Cleveland Heights and Friendship Circle of Cleveland.

Cleveland Heights, Ohio is a diverse, progressive, vital suburb of Cleveland just up the hill from University Circle, with its museums, colleges and world-renowned medical facilities – Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals – and is a convenient commute to downtown. The Cleveland Heights City Charter provides for a Council-Manager form of government, which combines representative leadership through elected council members with the managerial experience of the city manager.

The Board of Zoning Appeals consists of five members and one alternative appointed by Council for four-year terms. This board hears citizen requests for zoning variances from regulations pertaining to signs, yard regulations, lot width requirements, off-street parking requirements, fences, etc. The board hears appeals concerning Housing, Zoning and Business Maintenance Codes.
